This 19-year old Timbaland protégé might be your next favourite female rapper. Her flow and style is very reminiscent of the female rappers who were doing their thing in the 90’s. Besides of all that, she’s a double threat because the girl can sing too. Timbo might have just struck gold with this vibrant, promising artist.
New York native Joey Bada$$ is also an MC who’s very reminiscent of 90’s hiphop as growing up in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn (the birthplace of Biggie and Nas) influenced him heavily. With enough mainstream appeal to make lyrics cool again, Joey Bada$$ will definitely become a force to be reckoned with. Definitely look for him to have a huge 2015 as he will be releasing his debut album Before.Da.$$ on January 20.
Fresh on the scene and a breath of fresh air has been the arrival of DC rapper GoldLink. Heavily influenced by the sound of Soundcloud superstars such as Kaytranda and Lakim, GoldLink delivers with care free lyrics over productions you may not typically associate with hip hop. GoldLink is definitely one to watch out for in 2015 and beyond.
Little Simz (20) is a female emcee from the UK who started rapping at the age of 10. Simz has recently been announced as one of VEVO’s ‘DSCVR Ones To Watch 2015′. She’s the only rapper who made it on the list so she must be doing something right. She flows over beats with so much ease that you just can’t help but love her sound. With Jay Z being one of her biggest supporters it’s safe to say this young woman from North London has got a bright future ahead of her.
Waldo is one rapper that you absolutely, positively, cannot sleep on. Signed with Soulection, Waldo has worked with some top producers this year, including Mount Kimbie, Marvel Alexander, $ir OJ and, of course Soulection affiliate and friend Sango. The latter worked right alongside Waldo to put out the amazing Until Then EP, earlier this year. I’m definitely excited to hear a lot more from this young gun in 2015.
