Back in October 2013 I shared my first Smooth Sunday jam with you guys. I’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback on this concept and I wanted to add another dimension to it so I asked some of my favourite artists/DJs/producers and music aficionados to put together a guest playlist or guest mix including their ten favourite Smooth Sunday tunes. This week Amsterdam-based singer/rapper Maydien, who premiered his latest single FridayNight / SundayMorning via Hypetrak earlier this week, shares his favourite Smooth Sunday jams. Find out more about Maydien and check out his playlist below.
What does the world need to know about Maydien?
I started releasing music in 2011. Together with my main producer Mitchell LC Yard, we combine the styles hiphop, future soul and r&b. I did support shows for Jay Z, Frank Ocean, Snoop and Black Milk and did over twenty festivals last year. This year we’re taking our time to refine our sound and connect overseas.
What are you working on at the moment?
Right now I’m focusing on making as many tracks as possible. Not only with Mitchell but also with other producers and vocalists who I think are dope. In the meantime Mitchell are trying to cook up a new EP for the winter. This time we really want to take our time and release it before 2016, because we want to focus on the festivals and other gigs in 2016.
What does your average Sunday look like?
Lol. My Sundays are really average man. Either I’m with the fam in the south or in the studio with Mitchell. Most of the time it’s the studio though.
Can you tell us a little bit about the playlist you put together?
The playlist I put together exists out of tracks I’ve been listening to a lot lately. I start off with relaxing tracks in the morning, but once I’m out the door, the tracks will slap more though. I kind of put the tracks in order, from chill to bangers.
